THE GRAPHICS AND FINE ARTS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
SPONSORED BY THE SFMUG - HOSTED BY BAILLIO'S WAREHOUSE STORE
Meets the first Saturday of every month, 10:00AM at Baillio's Warehouse Store,
3294 Cerrillos Rd. Santa Fe, NM 87507
February 5th' Presentation:
BAD NEWS!!!!!! GOOD NEWS!!!!!!
John Tollett is unable to make his presentation on Painter on February 5. He´s got new and stringent deadlines for his latest book. He'll be rescheduled later, so don't get discouraged.
PLAN B CALLS FOR A LITTLE AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Everybody with a favorite trick in graphics and fine art can come up and show off. Just bring a disk with your demo images, and we'll go
from there.
If you like you can reserve a time slot - contact Bob Everett at everett@skystudio-online.com with a subject and a time estimate. If not, OK. It's OPEN MIKE TIME at the old SIG this coming meeting.
Bob Everett will kick things off for twenty minutes or so demonstrating how to make composite images in Photoshop from camera images of a scene with more depth-of-field than any camera can provide in a single frame, or with more highlight-to-shadow range than any film can provide in a single frame. If you´ve got depth-of-field or light range problems in photgraphy this´s good stuff.*
MEETINGS LIKE THIS ARE A LOT OF FUN!!! DON'T MISS IT!!
G&FA SIG meetings take place on the first Saturday of each month, excluding holidays, at Baillio's Warehouse Store, 3291 Cerrillos Road. The presentations go from 10:00AM until noon.
* This technique uses lots of layers and masks. If you're a little nervous about such stuff you can attend Bob's SF Mac User Group presentation "USING MODES, MASKING AND COLOR CHANNELS IN PHOTOSHOP" at the Sweeney Convention Center, room 5, Feb 2, at 8:00PM. There's a small charge for non-members (hint hint).
Everyone welcome! Come one, come all!

Another MacNN story referencing an AP story:
Apple outpaces Dell, PC industry growth in Q4
Tuesday, January 18, 2005 @ 10:25pm
Apple's worldwide Mac shipments were up nearly 25 percent in the fourth quarter of 2004, nearly doubling the overall PC growth rate in the same quarter. IDC said that worldwide shipments of PCs grew 13.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2004 on strong demand from small- and medium-sized businesses as well as holiday shoppers. Apple's tremendous growth rate was driven in part by the new iMac G5 and the "halo effect;" however, it was not enough to land Apple among the top PC vendors in terms of marketshare and overall unit sales for the quarter: Dell (17%), HP (16%), IBM (5.7%), Acer (4.3%), and Fujitsu/Siemens (4%) were in the top 5, respectively. IDC forecasts growth in worldwide PC shipments will moderate to about 10 percent this year, according to the AP report.

The promotion, offering a one-in-three chance of winning, runs from January 31, 2005 to April 30, 2005 and will include free iTunes songs and a sweepstakes for approximately 1,700 iPod minis.
